Ultimately, his Novint patents were sold to Facebook. He founded Devvio in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.

City of Albuquerque – Deputy Director of the Department of Technology and Innovation

Mark Leech is the Deputy Director of the Department of Technology and Innovation in the City of Albuquerque. Until recently, he managed the APD Technical Services Unit. Before that, he led the City’s efforts in open data, transparency and innovation. As a software developer, he has worked extensively in both public and private sectors.

In 2015 Mark was awarded the prestigious William Dixon First Amendment Award by the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government for his open data work.

Mark moved from England to New Mexico in 2002 and holds an MSc. in Informations Systems Engineering from the University of Wolverhampton, England.

Nicholas Pattengale

Sandia National Laboratories – Researcher

Nicholas Pattengale is a computer scientist at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has successfully applied distributed algorithms research to the benefit of numerous US government entities. He took a research interest in Bitcoin in 2010, and among other forward-looking initiatives analyzed the emerging blockchain ecosystem with respect to tech surprise. He has since fostered a robust blockchain research portfolio, and is a sought after subject matter expert on blockchain technology, its transformative/disruptive potential, and its worthwhile US government use cases. Nicholas has a PhD and MS in Computer Science from the University of New Mexico, and a BS from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

Rebecca Gott

IBM – Distinguished Engineer

Dr. Rebecca Gott is an IBM Distinguished Engineer on the IBM Z and LinuxONE team. Rebecca leads the development work for IBM Z & LinuxONE differentiation for Blockchain in the IBM Cloud and on-premises. Over the last year she has focused on delivering IBM Blockchain Platform for Multicloud, which enables clients to deploy IBP within their own data centers. Rebecca meets regularly with clients to understand their requirements for deploying Blockchain technologies, from a use case, fabric technology and infrastructure perspective.

Rebecca received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1995 from Tulane University where she developed signal processing techniques to process multi-beam sonar data, followed by serving in the United States Air Force where she worked in GPS development and test, rising to the level of US Air Force Captain. She joined IBM in 1999 in the area of High Performance Computing, followed by working in pre-silicon verification for multiple ASIC chips, POWER programs, and served as the pre-silicon verification lead for the processor cache subsystem for five generations of IBM Z, through z14. Dr. Gott has also served as an Adjunct Faculty member at SUNY New Paltz.

Shalawn is one of the Washington Systems Center Technical Managers who leads a dedicated team of zHW and zSW Technical Specialist. She’s also acting as the NA Technical Leader focused on the IBM Cloud Private for Z technology where she works with her team to enable our NA customers and the technical community alike. She’s been with IBM for 18 years and have spent the last 13 years focused on System Z, Z Middleware and Z integrated solutions.

IBM – Blockchain Technical Sales Leader NA


Jin leads the Blockchain technical sales effort for the North America Z team at IBM. As part of this she provide technical direction on client engagement model and strategy for advancing and progressing client Blockchain initiatives. Her team helps clients see the value of Blockchain through education, demonstrations, Proof of Technology, and expert advice. Ultimately, she evangelizes the use of blockchain to increase business process efficiency, spur innovation and drive new markets and business models. Jin holds a B.S in Computer Science from SUNY New Paltz and M.S in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

David Murphy

David is a partner in Core-Visual, Inc.; a video production and commercial photography company based in Albuquerque. He loves the philosophy behind a decentralized peer-to-peer form of money as an alternative to current payment systems, especially for merchant adoption, and is working specifically to integrate Dash cryptocurrency into the community.
